What is Oxygen Therapy – FAQ

 What is oxygen therapy?

Over time, the body’s ability to supply oxygen to the skin diminishes, affecting the normal functions of regeneration and repair, which leads to ageing. Oxygen Therapy is a procedure where an oxygen saturated carrier liquid is gently sprayed onto the client’s skin, infusing large amounts of oxygen into the epidermis, which is then utilised by the skin tissue over the next few hours. This enables the skin to resume its normal functions of regeneration and repair, leaving more youthful skin.

What type of skin will benefit from oxygen therapy?

Clients with skin that is beginning to show signs of ageing will benefit immensely from oxygen therapy, as oxygen is essential for all facets of regeneration and rejuvenation.  As bacteria cannot survive in oxygen rich environments this treatment is also fantastic for clients with acneic skin. This is not the limit of oxygen therapy; however, it can also be used on any skin type to help with damage caused by environmental factors, as well as simply to increase the skin’s health.

How long does an oxygen therapy treatment take?

Oxygen Therapy is perfect for busy salons as it can be performed in as little as half an hour depending on the condition being treated and the area affected. It can also be used as an add-on with other services, and in this case should only take a couple of minutes.

How will the skin look immediately after a treatment?

Overall the skin will look plumper and less wrinkled almost immediately. The skin will continue to improve for the next 6 hours or so, and may have a fine white film, which can be rubbed in with moisturiser. There is absolutely no down time for this treatment, and clients can resume with daily life immediately.

How many treatments are required?

The skin will look and feel different from just one treatment, but a series of six to ten treatments at weekly intervals is recommended for maximum results, with maintenance treatments every four to eight weeks. Obviously this will depend slightly on the condition being treated and the skin type.

Is oxygen therapy safe?

Absolutely!! Oxygen therapy simply allows the body to use oxygen (which is supplied in the form of a carrier liquid) more effectively, without invasive procedures, and is entirely safe.  It is an easy to grasp treatment, with therapists trained and ready to perform treatments in a few hours.

Can Oxygen Therapy be performed with other treatments?

Yes! Oxygen Therapy  is extremely versatile and can be performed in conjunction with microdermabrasion, microcurrent, chemical peels and LED therapy; just to name a few. Treatments should be performed separately at first (to check for any reactions), and then in conjunction with each other.
